1651 Birth of John Baptist de La Salle (Reims, France)

WE ARE WRITING ANOTHER PAGE IN THE HISTORY OF DE LA SALLE

9.00 A.M…..the 112 Capitulants take their places in the Aula Magna. There is a special atmosphere.

It is not easy to imagine that those who are sitting down …are going to be the protagonists of a rich experience.

Between them all, in the coming weeks, they are  going to write new pages in the History of the Institute.

The windows of the Aula Magna open. Light comes in….quite a symbol… the presence of the Holy Spirit will surely come.

They are many who, in these days, are invoking him from the 5 continents.
At t he presiding desk are Brothers Alvaro, Superior-General, Carlos Gomez, President of the Preparatory Commission and Lorenzo Gonzalez, Secretary General..
The Superior invites us to pray and everybody, each in his own language, recites the Prayer of the Chapter….the work of the Chapter has begun.

TRAVELLING LIGHT AND READY TO SET OUT

The Capitulants  are invited to leave everything in the Hall and in an attitude of search, traveling light and ready to set out…they begin the Rite of Exodus.
In the main hall beside the steps to the entrance which have been witness to great events.

A Hindu rite takes place…….the forehead of each one is anointed with a red mark.

Br. Alvaro greets each one personally. In procession they enter the main chapel, whose appearance has been changed for the occasion. The beautiful marble pillars will remain hidden for some days behind some fabric…they enter the ‘Tent”…it is the Exodus.

Br.Superior, shepherd’s crook in hand, listens to the Word of God: “Go into the land that I will show you….I will make of you a great nation” (Gen.12, 1-4)….Choose for each of your tribes men who are wise, discerning and reputable to be your leaders….so I charged you at that time with all the things you should do” (Deut. 1.13 ???)
Beside the relics of Saint John Baptist de la Salle the Spirit was invoked. On this occasion our Lasallian greeting had great strength: LIVE JESUS IN OUR HEARTS….FOR EVER.  .
