ELECTION OF THE SUPERIOR GENERAL:  FIRST STRAW VOTE

“Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God”… this traditional phrase in our Lasallian world was heard differently through the Chapter Hall windows as the  chapel bells tolled 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 25, 2007.

The Capitulants walked one by one with slips of paper in hand containing nominations (a maximum of three) to be deposited in a boxed marked in three languages – FIRST STRAW VOTE.

The 44th General Chapter has begun the process which is expected to end on Monday, the 28th of June, with the election of the Superior General for the next seven years.

THE CAPITULANTS HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THE RESULTS OF THE FIRST STRAW VOTE

The scrutineers absented themselves from the Chapter Hall.  In a room next to the Assembly, the box was opened and the nominations counted.  By the end of the morning, the Capitulants had been informed of the results.  The votes were not weighted; the list merely reflects the number of votes which each nominee received.

Those nominees who wish to withdraw their candidacy have been asked to alert the President of the Central Commission in writing, so that he can inform the Capitulants.

Following this clarification, the Capitulants will know the name of the candidates for the second straw vote which will take place tomorrow morning, Saturday the 26th of June.
