Dear Members of Our Lasallian Family,

Enclosed with this message is the Declaration from the Union of Superior Generals inviting us to participate in the fast and prayer for peace suggested by Pope John Paul II. At the last Assembly of Superior Generals held at the Jesuit Generalate on November 23 we were asked to make a statement regarding the current situation. The Executive Committee met on November 25 and drew up a statement which was approved unanimously.

I hope that as Brothers and as members of the Lasallian Family we can unite ourselves both on December 14 as well as on January 24 to this papal initiative to give ever greater "comfort to the afflicted and to serve as agents of consolation and reconciliation." For this to happen I would ask that this communiqué be widely circulated within our Districts, Sub-Districts or Delegations.

May Advent which has just begun and Christmas which will be here soon be occasions to make visible our conviction that the Lord who comes "is our peace" (Ephesians 2:14).
