Br. Superior Hosts Bethlehem University Board of
Regents:
On
June 24, 2002, during the meeting of the Board of
Regents of Bethlehem University in Rome, Br. Superior
and his Council hosted the Regents and a number of
guests to a reception and dinner at the Generalate. The
guest list included the Ambassadors to the Holy See from
Ireland and France, Archbishop Antonio Maria Vegliò,
Secretary of the Congregation of Oriental Churches, and
Archbishop Luigi Travaglino of the
Vatican Secretariat of State. With the current
situation at Bethlehem being as difficult as it is, Br.
Superior and his Council thanked the Regents and,
through them, the many dedicated faculty and staff of
the university who have worked so hard to continue their
educational mission among the Palestinian people. |
Brother Lorenzo Tébar Belmonte ,
of the District of Central Spain, has earned the 2001
Special Doctoral Award from the UNED Department of
Education for his doctoral thesis entitled "The profile
of the teacher-mediator: contributions from the
Instrumental Enrichment Program (PEI) to the interactive
style in the classroom."
Brother Lorenzo is currently the Pedagogical Renewal
Director of the Spanish Federation of Teaching Religious
(FERE) and the Director of the "Saint John Baptist de La
Salle" Chair of Christian Education of the St. Pius X
Advanced Institute for Religious Science and
Catechetics. He is considered one of the best
specialists in the Instrumental Enrichment Program (to
which he dedicated his thesis) and he has taught many
courses in Spain, Latin America, and in Israel.

Christ the Teacher Institute for Education Graduates
42 Students:
CTIE
in Nairobi Kenya is part of the School of Education of
Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, USA. Christ the
Teacher Institute for Education awarded its first
accredited diplomas in May 1996 and its first B. Sc. Ed.
Degrees in May 1997. On may 18, 2002, for the first
time, the president of Saint Mary's University, Br.
Louis DeThomasis, FSC, PhD, was able to attend the
graduation ceremonies in Nairobi. At the ceremony, Br.
Louis gave out 36 four-year degrees in Education, 6
three-year diplomas in Education, and two Masters degrees in
Africa Studies. CTIE now has 160 students and
anticipates doubling that number in the next five years,
following the completion of a new building with twice
the space of the current facility. |
International Office of Catholic Education:
The
first two weeks of April 2002.
The 16th Congress for the OIEC was held in Brasilia for
the purpose of evaluating the way it is run and to
appoint new people to be in charge of the organization.
This was also an opportunity to celebrate the fiftieth
anniversary of this Office, which is an NGO that is
present in many countries, at the service of 40 million
children and young people.
The topic for the Congress was: A new person for a new
and globalized world. Thirty Lasallians who play major
roles in Christian education in their respective
countries, participated in the Congress.
At the end of the Congress the Institute of the Brothers
of the Christian Schools was elected as a member of the
International Council for a period of four years. At the
request of the Union of Major Superiors, the Brothers
will represent the group of male Congregations committed
to education.
Brother Nicolas Capelle, FSC, Secretary for the
Educational Mission, will be the representative. |
90th Birthday Celebration of Br. Leone Morelli:
On
June 20, 2002, Brother Superior and several other guests
celebrated with Br. Leone Morelli his 90th birthday. Br.
Leone is the former Postulator General of the Brothers.
Br. Leone was featured another time on the web, on
March 30, 1999, when he received, from the French
Ambassador to the Holy See the medal of Officer in the
National Order of Merit. Before becoming Postulator
General, Br. Leone presided over an association,
recognized by the French and Italian governments, which
addressed the teaching of the children of Italian
emigrant families in France. In a particular way, he
assisted in the recruitment and spiritual formation of
Italian teachers of the association. Congratulations and
happy birthday. |
