World Youth Day - Then and Now: The Toronto Delegation had the honor of hosting both Brother Alvaro, Superior and Brother William, Vicar between their visits to Quebec 2002 and World Youth Day 2002 Both Brother Alvaro and Brother William had the opportunity to meet all the Brothers of the Delegation as they visited La Salle Manor and De La Salle College. On Friday July 19th a formal reception was held in their honor, at which time they met many of the close collaborators of the Brothers. Present were the members of the Boards of Trustees, chief administrators of the school and nursing home, close friends and associates, as well as Bishop Richard Grecco, Vicar for Religious of the Archdiocese of Toronto. The following day the Superiors participated in a Delegation Council meeting at which a formal report of the Delegation was given to them. Late in the afternoon of Saturday, July 20th, they visited La Salle Manor, the nursing home for the Delegation, where they met each of the Brother residents personally. The visit included a prayer service, a talk by Brother Superior, a dialogue by Brother Alvaro and William with the Brothers and a reception and dinner.

In the picture at the left, Br. Alvaro can be seen in a photo taken in Rome during WYD 2000 and in  WYD 2002. Two students, Brendan and Patrick Brown, are on either side of the Superior and Mr. Robert Constanzo, their teacher, is to the Superior's far left. We will be looking to WYD 2005 for a follow-up picture.

Brother Superior returned to Rome on Sunday, July 21 and Brother Vicar remained in Toronto for the World Youth Day 2002 activities.

Regarding The Next Cil Session: The next CIL session is for Brothers in midlife, a critical period in their human and spiritual growth, as noted in the 43rd General Chapter. There are 35 Brother participants from 18 countries and 4 Staff members.

Thus the reflection will be organized around two fundamental themes. On one hand this will be an opportunity for the Cilists to take some time to review their life as they move through this sensitive period in their personal history. On the other hand this time will also allow them to deepen their understanding of the Lasallian Charism, keeping in mind that this is also an important inspiration for the lives of more and more lay partners who participate in Lasallian education.

Before coming to Rome, the Brothers will have an experience of ministry in a work dedicated to direct service to the poor or marginalized, thus renewing their insight into the mission.

Kilo Campaign, Grand Canary Island, Spain: To mark the patron feast day of the village of Agüimes, on Grand Canary Island, Spain, the Lasallian Youth Association from here sponsored the "Kilo Campaign." Over the course of several days, non-perishable food items were collected to serve as an offering for the village's patroness, Our Lady of the Rosary. Nearby residents contributed generously to the cause. The food items that were collected were distributed to different charitable institutions.
