European
Conference of Brother Visitors: The European Conference of
Brother Visitors took place at Paderno del Grappa in northern Italy from
September 26th to 29th. This meeting takes place every two years and
allows the Visitors and Auxiliary Visitors to study a theme , take stock
of the work of the European Commissions (Pastoral , Education etc.) and
embark on actions for the future. This year the theme for reflection
was: authority and accompaniment.
A talk by Fr.Cardin OFM started the reflection. Then some Brothers
Visitors presented the reports of the Commissions which were commented
on , before the final vote on the work to be undertaken in the next two
years. Sunday was devoted to an exchange on the Restructuring of the
Lasallian Regions of Europe, a theme presented by Brothers Juan Pablo
Martin and Claude Reinhardt , General Counsellors , who took part in the
entire meeting with Brother Superior-General. The latter , at the end of
the meeting , addressed all the Brothers Visitors and Auxiliary Visitors
to invite them to be men of unconditional hope and to always choose
life.
This intense programme was carried out in a very fraternal atmosphere ;
helped along by the welcome given by the Fillipin Institute of Paderno
and an outing to Venice which was especially sunny at the end of this
September.
A big word of thanks to the Region of Italy for its organization and
welcome. (Br.

Inter-District
novitiate of Rionegro, Antioquia, Colombia: The eighteen Brothers in
formation in the Inter-District novitiate of Rionegro, Antioquia,
Colombia, continue working on carrying out their community program. They
are in the final stages of the process, as they express with their lives
the experience of fraternity, quality liturgical life, Eucharistic
celebrations, and daily reference to the Gospel. All of this is seen as
a commitment to the Lord Jesus, who has called them. We wish them joy
always as they follow their vocation in the educational service of the
young.

Accompaniment
Workshop, Rome: As one of the responses to the needs of the
accompaniment of our Brothers, especially young Brothers, an English
language "Workshop on Accompaniment" was held from October 6 - 13, 2002
at the Generalate.
In addition to the Secretaries for Initial Formation, the following
Brothers were invited to participate: Stan Campbell (San Francisco),
Henry Dissanayake (Sri Lanka), Carlos Gómez (RELAL), Bud Knight
(Lwanga), Ricky Laguda (Philippines), Joseph Mahon (Baltimore), Mark
Muphy (India).
Activities were aimed at clarifying concepts, criteria, strategies and
structures on good methods of accompaniment. Also, better means for
effective accompaniment were looked at so that the quality desired on
the part of those who accompany, those who are accompanied, communities
involved, Brothers in charge of formation at the District and Regional
levels, could be achieved. There was also clarification about how to
draw up and analyze materials that would aid in the discussion, as well
as in raising awareness, prayer and commitment.
In the overall process, this is the first step among others that will be
taken, in order to respond in a pertinent way to the felt need to
improve the processes of accompaniment for the Brothers, especially
young Brothers. The second workshop will be held in Bogota, Colombia, in
Spanish, from February 1 - 9, 2003. (Br. Alberto Prada)
