A meeting on the Pastoral Ministry of Vocations , ARLEP: A meeting on the Pastoral Ministry of Vocations, sponsored by ARLEP (Spain-Portugal Lasallian Region) was held from October 31 - November 2, 2002. The discussion centered around Lasallian vocations today and there were nearly one-hundred in attendance for the session, including both Brothers and partners. There were a significant number of young Brothers present. Each day there was a presentation which served as the basis for discussion and for group work and then for the large-group sharing. The first talk was given by Marifé Ramos, a lay theologian, on how God continues calling today and about how to speak about vocations today. The second presentation was about Vocation Ministry within the framework of Association and Shared Mission and the speaker was Brother José María Pérez Navarro. The third presentation was given by Brother Álvaro, Superior General, and his topic was "How to present the Brother's vocation today." On the last day the various Districts met to plan specific lines of action. Everyone was greatly pleased with the encounter. This event was seen as a preparation for the meeting on Vocation Ministry that all Lasallian Regions in Europe will be having in response to Proposition 26 from the 43rd General Chapter.

Meeting of the General Council with the Brother Visitors and Auxiliary Visitors of the REBIM Region (Region of Britain, Ireland, Malta): In the course of their seven-year mandate, it is the practice of Brother Superior General and of the General Council to have one meeting with the Brother Visitors and Auxiliary Visitors of each of the Lasallian Regions. This visit can precede or follow Brother Superior's visit to the Region. The meeting with those of REBIM took place at Oxford from November 10th - 15th 2002. Before the meeting, the Brother Councillors had already visited a number of communities, schools and educational centres in the three sectors of Malta, Ireland and Great Britain. The photo shows Br Superior, the General Councillors, the Visitors of REBIM and the Brothers of the Oxford Provincialate. The friendly welcome and hospitality of the Provincialte were very much appreciated.

Haïti, a nation of "youth": Br. Marc Hofer, General Council, had the privilege of spending 20 days in October in the Sector of Haïti where he animated a Lasallian Day for the Brothers and the Postulants, a several day formation session for the Postulants, two conferences followed by a time of discussion for the students of the Lasallian Institute of Religious Sciences and Catechetics, and community meetings. He was deeply touched by the wholehearted hospitality of the Brothers, Postulants and people of Haïti. Therefore, he would like to give some reflections based on this encouraging, enriching and pleasant visit.

El Centro Educativo La Salle, Homestead, Florida, USA: The retreats held at the La Salle Educational Center have always been very well organized and this year's was no exception. More than 30 participants were involved in a recent retreat whose theme was "Communion."

The young people's active participation in this retreat was exceptional and many presenters collaborated to give the children talks on "The Last Supper," "The Sacrifice of Jesus," "The Sacrifice of the Mass," and "Bible knowledge." The purpose of this retreat was to educate the children in the basics of their faith, since many of them have not studied religion in any formal way. Participants included children who were regular attendees of the La Salle School as well as children from other schools and everyone demonstrated that anything is possible for those who really try.

Web notes: In 1979, Br. Emile Rousset, FSC, published an extensive Iconographie of St. John Baptist de La Salle. Because a number of our visitors have requested it via our survey, we have added many of these pictures to our clip art section.
