News of the Institute and Lasallian Family

Rome, July 4, 2003

Brother Álvaro Rodríguez Echeverría
Superior General
Dear Brothers and all members of the Lasallian Family:

With deep sorrow I am communicating to you the news of the death of Brother Leone Morelli who died during the night at the community of Colle La Salle, Rome where he was recovering from recent health problems. May he rest in peace!

Brother Leone reached his 91st birthday on the 21st June just gone by. He received the habit of the Brothers at Albano on 6th October 1929 and made his perpetual vows in Rome on 18th July 1937. He was elected Assistant General on the death of his brother Ruggero in April 1975. He ended his period in 1976, continuing as Postulator General until 1995 in which year he was reintegrated into his District of Rome. Later you will receive a circular giving more complete information about this great Brother.

For all of us who received the grace to know Brother Leone, his memory is imperishable. Right up to the last days of his long life his person reflected amongst many other qualities a profound spirituality, an exquisite courtesy, a fraternal interest for each individual, a remarkable delicacy, a great serenity and an unvarying love for our Institute.

There can be no doubt that the many Brothers for whom he brought about their being raised to the altars by his labour full of zeal and love will have received him with joy and gratitude. We can apply to Brother Leone what the Founder says to us about the young people whom we have educated and who rejoice with God in heaven: "What a thrill of joy you will have when you hear the voices of those whom you have led as if by the hand into heaven itself.!" (Meditation 208,3).

Fraternally in De La Salle.
