Br. Michael McKenery Receives National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) Catholic Secondary Education Award: Brother Michael McKenery received recognition for distinguished leadership and service to Catholic secondary education at the 2005 NCEA Convention held in Philadelphia, PA, USA March 29 – April 1, 2005. The award was presented by the President of the NCEA Secondary Schools Department Sr. Rosemary Hocevar.
At La Salle Academy, he has transformed decades old dreams of students, parents, and alumni into the realities of the McLaughlin Athletic Center, the Shea Science and Student Center, and the Brother Michael McKenery Performing Arts Center.
There is a renewed vitality among the student body and staff, as well as the parents and alumni. Brother Michael has moved the school into the new century with a state of the art technology plan. His vision is to have La Salle Academy in the forefront in terms of educational technology so that our students will have all the advantages of a first-rate Catholic education.
Brother Michael has stated, “I want my life to be something more than long! I want my life lived in the charism of John Baptist de La Salle and embraced by the loving touch of Jesus. My life will have meaning only if I reach out and touch others and allow myself to be touched and transformed by the lives I touch.”
“I will work and pray to live my life according to the ideals I embraced at the age of eighteen, keeping in mind always that my life is a work in progress. I am not complete and the challenge of fullness and joy is always just ahead of me, prompting me and inviting me to take the next step and find the new meaning. May I always be ready to take that step."

Young Lasallians of France celebrate Easter at Parmenie: From March 26th to the 28th, 2005, young Lasallians from France went to Parmenie to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ. Parmenie is the site in the South East of France where John Baptist de La Salle went on retreat before being called back to Paris by the Brothers of Paris, Versailles and Saint Dennis to reassume his duties as Superior General on April 1, 1714. Here are a few pictures that were taken while the young people were there for Easter.

City of Talavera Culture Award awarded to the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools: The De La Salle Christian Brothers have received, from the City Council of the Talavera de la Reina (Spain), the 2005 City of Talavera Culture award.
This award is the highest honor that can be bestowed by the city on citizens.
The award was given for the more than 50 years that the Brothers have contributed to the culture of the city, developing not only an educational center, but especially a space that is open to relationships and living together.
The awards panel focused on the work that the Brothers do in the field of association, citing the school and some of its more important associations, in line with its cultural, athletic, ecological, and social impact.
Brother Luis Álvarez, Director of the school and the Brothers' community, accepted the award. The award consists of a ceramic piece (typical of this city) and a supporting parchment.
Congratulations to the 70 Brothers who, during the course of the past 54 years, have served in Talavera de la Reina, in an undertaking begun by Saint John Baptist de La Salle.
