Four Men Commit to Various Levels of the Brothers' Life in the Baltimore District: At the annual assembly at La Salle College High School in Philadelphia on October 1, 2005 four young men committed themselves to various stages in the life of the Brothers. Anwar Martinez-Ramos and Robert Peach made a formal commitment by promises and began their residency program as postulants. Prior to entry into the residency program Anwar, a native of Mexico, was a Lasallian volunteer at the San Miguel School run by the Brothers in Camden, NJ. Robert is a graduate of Calvert Hall College High School in Baltimore.
John Luczkowski, a graduate of North Catholic High School in Philadelphia and La Salle University, received the religious garb of the Brothers. Brother Joseph Juliano, who had completed his novitiate in August, made his first profession of vows during the afternoon liturgy celebrated in the school's auditorium. Brother Joseph is presently the Director of Campus Ministry and a religion teacher at Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, a school staffed by the Brothers since its foundation over seventy years ago.

The District of Valencia-Palma celebrates the closing ceremony of the Centenary in the Balearics, in Mallorca: The celebrations with which the Centenary was closed began on Friday September 30th at seven o’clock in the evening with a reception for the Superior-General, Br. Álvaro Rodríguez Echeverría and the Visitor, Br. Rafael Matas Roselló in La Salle College, Palma. During this ceremony there was a presentation of the book ‘Evocaciones’, written by several De La Salle Brothers. Following this Prof. Manel Santana (Professor at the University of Palma and at La Salle College, Son Rapinya) gave a talk on the Lasallian contribution to education in the Balearics.
The closing ceremonies of the Centenary continued on October 1st. In the morning at 10 o’clock, the Brothers and Associates gathered at the cemetery of Marratxí to pay their respects to all the Brothers who had died and had offered their lives in the Lasallian charism, Brothers who had dedicated their lives to education and to the creation of persons with their own identities. Later, at 11.30 at Residencia La Salle in Pont d’Inca, a commemorative stone dedicated to the first French De La Salle Brothers, was unveiled. Here too it was possible to visit the Lasallian exposition “Cent anys de La Salle a Balears” (100 years of De La Salle in the Balearics), which for the past year has been touring all the Lasallian centers in the Balearic Islands.
In the evening at seven o’clock, the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca was the venue for a Eucharistic celebration presided over by the three Bishops of the Balearic Islands.
The cathedral was packed with Lasallians: pupils, past-pupils, Brothers, teachers, non-teaching personnel… After the Eucharist, at nine o’clock, everybody went to Son Amar, where a big celebratory meal along with an enjoyable show brought to an end a year of intense celebrations.
The ceremonies celebrating the Centenary of La Salle began on October 16th 2004 in Menorca with the inauguration of the Centenary and the presentation of the exposition ‘Expo Centenari 1904-2004’. This year of celebrations also served for the creation of the First Education Forum “L’escola, una trobada de cultures, valors i creences” (The school, a meeting-place of cultures, values and beliefs) which took place in the Colegio de Palma de Mallorca between June 29th and July 2nd.
The celebrations of the centenary were also marked by the publication of the first biography of Saint John Baptist de La Salle in Catalan, written by Rafel Bordoy. ‘Cent lasallians’ was another book which recalled the experiences of 100 distinguished past-pupils of La Salle. Finally there was the book ‘Claranderes’: 6 poems by Rafel Bordoy on 6 educational values, with illustrations by 6 teachers.
