A special event in the La Salle Professional School in Pildesti (Romania): On November 30th 2005 the La Salle Professional School prepared to celebrate in a worthy manner the National Day of Romania. At exactly 12 o’clock the blessing of the statue of St.John Baptist de La Salle took place. The ceremony was presided over by the Parish-Priest of Pildesti, Fr.Pedro Budau and his co-adjutor, Fr. Laurentiu Ignat. Along with the community of the Brothers, all the teachers and pupils of our school were present. At the beginning of the ceremony the Assistant-Director of the centre, Br.Antxon Andueza, pronounced the following words:

“As you well know, our school is not known by a number such as School No 3 or School No 7 but by a proper name, the name of a man who in the 17th Century gave up an easy life in order to dedicate himself to his fellow-men by means of the education of children and young people.

Before we opened the doors of this school in September 2001, we were thinking that something was missing, a visible reminder of the man who 350 years ago took the first step. Today this statue which is going to be blessed reminds us of our link of unity with the past and also of the fact that Saint John Baptist de La Salle, who in the year 1950 was declared special Patron of all Christian teachers, is still alive among us.

The statue was made by Mr.Negoita Radu Constantin, who is only 29 years of age and graduated from the George Enescu Academy of Plastic Arts of Iasi in 2002. He also made the sculptures which adorn the chapel of the Brothers’ House in Iasi. The pedestal of the present statue was made by the pupils of the school under the direction of Mr.Mihai Istoc”.

We rejoice in this event which will doubtless remain engraved for ever in the memory of all those present.
