NAIROBI – KENYA – UPDATE: Brother Tom Sullivan, Director of Novices in Nairobi, wrote on January 7 that "things are still tense in the country, but things seem to have calmed down, at least in Nairobi. Everyone is pleading for an end to the violence.
The politicians are still not settled on the next step to take, but mediation seems to be part of the solution. I believe that most businesses in Nairobi will be open today, after many closures last week. I feel safe in Karen where we live. Shops and banks are open again.
Most commodities are in short supply and the prices have INCREASED!!!...Travel around the country is still limited. The problem now is what to do with the displaced people who lost their homes and belongings. The Red Cross has moved in. Churches and radio stations are asking for aid and relief – water, food, and clothing. Thousands around the country are in this situation."
