Program Description: The summer program consists of academic and recreational activities. The morning is devoted to academic: working on reading, language arts and math skills. An enrichment unit is also included for each grade level. The afternoons are recreational, art and other activities. One day a week is a full-day field trip.
Population Served: We serve economically and educationally disadvantaged boys from the city of Camden. The student body is 90% Latino and 10% African American and includes grades 6th, 7th and 8th.
Geographical Area of Service: South Camden
Gifts/Skills/Talents most needed: Those interested in or who have experience in education and athletics. A driver's license is preferred.
Age Minimum: 20 years and up.
Minimum/Maximum length of service: 1 week to 1 month, but prefer a full month commitment.
Housing Accommodations: Space is limited, but we do have a house directly across the street from the school. This five bedroom house has room in the summer for full-time volunteers, but space is limited. The community, during the school year, is comprised of 3 Christian Brothers and 2 Lasallian Volunteers.
Benefits: Room and Board, small stipend.

Special Notes:
Cannot accommodate immersion groups or married couples.
Volunteers do not need to be Catholic.
Orientation: An orientation to the summer program, the community and Camden would be provided upon arrival. |
